Now that you've got a baby crib, the next thing you'll need to get is a crib set. The majority of bedding sets will include many different items, but you might find that you don't really need them all. It's really best to keep any extraneous bedding out of the crib, and this is what pediatricians now recommend. If you want to get the most for your money, skip the crib set and the useless (but cute) accessories. Instead, invest in a half dozen comfortable, high quality crib sheets.
Suffocation is a serious concern for babies, so remove all soft bedding, including bumper pads and blankets. Most parents worry about their baby getting too cold, but this problem is easily solved with swaddling blankets or a sleep sack. Wearable blankets are sort of like a cross between clothing and a sleeping bag. If you interested in a swaddling blanket, you might want to investigate some of the more modern styles that aid in getting the right fit. Swaddling helps some babies sleep better, but others find it constricting and do not like it. Your new baby will want to be held most of her waking hours, so it can be useful to buy a blanket to wrap around her. However, when baby goes in the crib, be sure to take the blanket off.
You may have seen the foam wedges that are sometimes recommended for young babies, to keep them sleeping on their backs. However, since a newborn that is put to sleep on her back can't roll over, she will remain on her back for the whole night. You should also realize that these foam wedges are themselves soft bedding, which is not recommended by most pediatricians for very young babies.
Aside from the standard bedding, a crib set can also include a diaper stacker, a toy bag, or even a window valance. These can make the nursery look great, but aren't necessary if you're on a budget.
It is understandable, however, that you might want a bedding set to complete the look of your baby's room. If so, just get neutral baby bedding like Hot Cocoa baby bedding. {It's much more cost effective because you can use it again and again, regardless of the sex of your next baby.}
