If you're not sure how you want to decorate your nursery, start by choosing the baby bedding set. You can already see exactly what your perfect nursery is going to look like, right down to the exact shade of paint for the walls - but hold your horses! When planning the nursery, you need to carefully choose your crib bedding set. Here are some of the main things to consider:
- Choose cotton flannels or knits (or wovens with a high thread count), but make sure they're not blends - go for 100% cotton. This is to ensure that the bedding is both soft and breathable.
- You are not going to have time for hand-washing your crib set, so be sure to buy something that is machine-washable.
- The crib sheet has to fit the crib mattress properly, or there could be a saftey concern. There are, however, elastic straps designed to improve the fit of your crib sheets, so you can use those if you have any concerns.
- A bedding set might seems like the msot economical way to buy bedding, but this is not necessarily true. You should realize that items commonly included in a bedding set (like bumper pads and comforters) are not recommended for very young babies. For this reason, it may make a lot more sense to buy separate pieces. If you're worried about coordinating, don't be. By purchasing separates, you actually give yourself more freedom to be creative with the nursery.
- And finally, after taking everything else into consideration, consider the theme of the room.
Depending on your needs, you may need want to spend more money on higher-quality bedding, or you may want to choose something a little less expensive. Since toddler beds usually use standard-sized crib sheets, you could be using the same bedding until your little one is about 4 or 5 years old. Think about family size, too. If you planning on multiple children, then think about a gender neutral crib set like the Vintage bedding set, that can be reused over and over with each new baby. On the other hand, if you are sure there will be no more babies, or if you like to redecorate frequently, cheaper bedding is probably more cost-efficient. You are definitely going to need more than one set of sheets, so be prepared and buy extras!
