It's not unusual today for couple's to seek out ways to control or influence their baby's gender; they may have children of one gender already and simply want one of each or may be trying to round out their family in some way, or may prefer one gender over another for whatever reason.  This of course is their personal preference and opinion and no one should question their motives or their desires, but that issue aside, can you really control or influence a baby's gender before the mother gets pregnant?

For centuries there have been stories told of how to determine or control a baby's gender and certainly many of these stories were not based in any scientific fact or understanding of the process of conception.  It was a wide belief that women picked the gender of their baby because they are the ones that could carry life.  People believed that it was something about the woman's system or insides that made the baby what is was, good or bad.  The baby being female or male is now known to be determined by the chromosomes that the father contributes to the egg and not based on the mothers at all.

The father really has little input when it comes to controlling or even influencing what gender the baby will be.
  Instead the best way to do this is to consider that the sperm carrying the Y chromosome for a boy is faster moving but dies quicker than the slower moving but longer lasting X chromosome for girls.  This means that "boy sperm" travel faster but die quicker than "girl sperm" which are slower but live longer.  The vaginal pH can either kill or preserve sperm; pH that is more alkaline will preserve sperm which can influence a baby's gender.  "Boy sperm" thrive in this environment and have a greater chance to reach the ovum to fertilize it.  Vaginal pH that is more acidic will kill these more delicate sperm and give the "girl sperm" more of a chance to reach an egg to fertilize.

Of course no one can guarantee or control a baby's gender no matter what they do.  Even the scientific technology used in vitro fertilization is not totally reliable concerning the baby's gender, so be ready to have either a boy or girl!
