Has it ever crossed your mind to begin coaching your baby to use Sign Language? It actually is a marvelous idea. Not only will it increase bonding you and your baby, but a baby can learn Sign Language much earlier than he or she can speak words – quite frequently by several months! Wouldn’t it be a benefit to you to cut way back on your baby’s frustration and tantrums at home? It is possible by teaching your baby to “speak” to you in Sign.

As an example, imagine that your ten-month-old is thirsty and wants to drink milk, certainly not fruit juice and not water. The child starts to fuss. You begin the ritual of checking the condition of the diaper; checking to see whether child has a fever; removing objects from the baby bag item by item, repeating ”Is this it?” You even offer the baby a bottle of fruit juice – but the little one wails in disappointment and frustration when he or she realizes that the bottle contains a drink that he or she does NOT want. Now both of you, and everyone else close enough to hear, are totally frazzled; the baby is in tears, and you yourself aren’t far behind.

All of this upset can be avoided, even if the child is not yet verbal. All that the child would have to learn, and would have to do, is give a Sign to you which both of you recognize, and there would be instantaneous communicationbetween you and the child. You could get the milk for the child, and everybody would be happy. Doesn’t that sound appealing?

It actually is possible!
